Music Competitions

The purpose of these workshops and competitions is to encourage and inspire young people to develop skills in traditional music, to meet professional musicians and make contact with other young people with similar interests. With this in mind the emphasis will be on fun and enjoyment.

COMPETITION CLASSES AND RULES:

1. DUO 12 and under £2.00

2. TRIO 12 and under £3.00

3. DUO 16 and under £2.00

4. TRIO 16 and under £3.00

5. SCHOOL CEILIDH BAND £5.00

6. OPEN CEILIDH BAND £5.00 (open to all age groups including over 16’s)

Rules

1. Duo/Trio section competitors should be 12 or under / 16 or under on date of event.

2. In all sections, any combination of instruments will be allowed. Vocals are accepted and performances should be at least 5 minutes.

3. Electric bass/piano will be accepted but no midi systems for accordions will be allowed.

4. Traditional signifies tunes should be in the Scots/Irish idiom.

5. Open and School Ceilidh bands should have a minimum of four players.

6. School Ceilidh bands should be made up of school pupils on date of event.

7. Players can compete more than once in the same section providing a different instrument is played.

8. Competitors should report to the steward 10 minutes before class starts.
